Halloween Nourishing Peppermint Patties

Halloween Nourishing Peppermint Patties

These peppermint patties are so smooth and refreshing, it’s difficult to believe that they’re vegan and extremely nourishing for you! Although I don’t follow a vegan diet, these vegan treats are dairy free and refined-sugar free. As a former sugar junkie, raw food desserts have been a blessing!

With Halloween being right around the corner, these are a great alternative to those GMO-ladened packaged candies and perfect for serving at a work or home party. This is an easy real-food recipe utilizing peppermint essential oil that will (hopefully) keep your hands out of the processed candy bowl!

I love sweets as much as anyone, but I love my health even more. Processed candy is packed with food dyes (many linked to ADHD), fake ingredients including high-fructose corn syrup, and in some cases even GMOs.

You can make your own raw chocolate like I did and will share in my recipe below, or you can use this short cut. Simply buy a good quality organic dark chocolate bar, like this one, melt it in a double boiler, and use that as your base. Easy!

Chocolate Recipe:

Truffle Filling:

  • 1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon coconut butter (manna)
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (grade B is best)
  • 2 drops of doTERRA peppermint essential oil

  • Prepare tray with 12 candy cup liners
  • Add truffle ingredients to a blender and mix on high. You’ll have to blend for a while to ensure that it is at a consistency you can press into a sort of dough. Note: this will not blend until smooth, but you can get it to a decent place
  • Set truffle mixture aside
  • Make your chocolate recipe. Melt coconut oil so you have a 1/2 cup liquid.
  • Add raw cacao
  • Add maple syrup
  • Whisk until smooth
  • Spoon chocolate into candy liners about 1/3 way. Spoon in filling. Cover top with additional chocolate
  • Place in refrigerator and let set for at least 1 hour

As with all things sweet moderation is key. That said, you can feel good about feeding you and your family this treat packed with antioxidants, medium-chain fatty acids, and manganese.
