Although it is just the beginning of April, Spring seasonal allergies are already in full swing. Believe it or not, there is something known as “snow mold” that can occur when too much snow has covered your lawn over the winter. As the snow starts to melt, snow mold is released and some folks show signs of allergies similar to those of seasonal allergies. So whether you are allergic to snow mold or to typical spring allergens, your symptoms are most likely the same; itching burning eyes, post-nasal drip, coughing, sneezing, and more.
There are some things that you can do to help to relieve your seasonal allergies that do not include conventional medication. Of course, these natural boosters are part of an ongoing lifestyle and are not a “quick fix”. That said, if you start implementing these daily habits into your life you will find that your seasonal allergies may reduce or even disappear as life moves on. 4 Ways to Reduce Seasonal Allergies Naturally
1.) Eliminate or Reduce Dairy: Dairy has been shown to increase phlegm and make allergy symptoms worse. The increased mucus keeps allergens in the body rather than expelling it. Start by replacing milk with almond milk or coconut milk. A little bit of grass-fed butter is okay. BONUS: You may just find that your digestion feels better as well!
2.) Stock Up on Raw Local Honey: Local honey is important as it is made from the pollen in your area. By consuming just a little per day, your body will slowly build up an immunity to these pollens. Raw is important as honey contains vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. During the pasteurization process these are destroyed. Because raw local honey is high in fructose, you don’t want to have more than one teaspoon per day. TIP: add it to a cup of antihistamine tea such as rooibos, ginger, or yerba mate to increase your relief.
3.) Supplement: There are many supplements that help with seasonal allergies, mostly because when you take high-quality supplements, you are addressing nutritional deficiencies and making your immune system stronger. 4.) Add In Essential Oils: Certain oils can help reduce the symptoms of seasonal allergies. Eucalyptus oil in a bath can help soothe mucus membranes. Lemon, Peppermint, and Lavender oils combined can produce a powerful natural antihistamine. Rub these 3 oils on the bottom of your feet and cover with a sock.
Reducing processed foods and eating clean will help to nourish your body as well. You may still need to take allergy medicine for the first few seasons while your system builds up strength to all of your positive changes.
