There is nothing like a delicious cup of egg nog to ring in the holidays. Unfortunately, it is difficult to stop at just a small portion, and all of that sugar with heavy cream won’t help your waistline. In fact, I love egg nog so much that I vowed to create the perfect smoothie that tastes just like egg nog, without the unhealthy ingredients and side effects.
Technically this recipe is not a true egg nog as it does not contain eggs. I still get a little worried about feeding uncooked eggs to my children and this is definitely a recipe to share. This is also a great recipe for those with sensitive tummies as it is dairy-free.
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 cup unsweetened milk alternative (coconut, cashew, or hazelnut work well in this recipe)
- 1 tablespoon raw local honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Dash of almond extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 shot of rum (completely optional!)
Place frozen bananas in a blender. It is very important that the bananas you use are frozen as they will create a custard-like consistency, mimicking the thickness of an egg nog. Add in your cup of milk alternative. Blend on high. Add in the remaining ingredients. Blend on low. Pour and serve!
